They say confession is good for the soul. Do you have a closet full of $300 shoes or a kitchen filled with expensive gadgets you never use. Come confess the frivolous ways you spend your money on Spendster.org, a new site devoted to help people overcome their impulse buying ways.
On Spendster you can see the confessions of other shopaholics and share your own story of stuff. The site is the brainchild of the non profit National Endownment for Finanacial Education. The theory behind the site is admitting that you have a spending problem is the first step towards developing better financial habits.
I'm more of a reformed spender, how else would I have racked up $20,000 in credit card debt. I still have to fight the temptation to blow money, now I just stay away from stores as much as possible, if I never see it I never buy it. Has anyone put up their confession yet?

I love that site. Fortunately, I am not a shopper. I'm still in debt but I would be in a lot more debt if I liked to shop.
In my 20's I was a shopper, now in my 30's I'm a saver. I used to go shopping as a means of entertainment, not that I really needed anything. I find it helps to stay away from magazines too, those glossy ads make everything so appealing.
Im sure this could help me, Im due to write up a post about them soon. I just wish it were more interactive where bloggers could post directly to a widget widget like the Twitter widget and tell readers what they've spent.
Hi Ginger, I agree they could do more to make the site user friendly and interactive. I didn't even see where you could join, I have plenty of past (OK and maybe some current) confessions. It will be interesting to watch the site grow, I know a few people with major spending issues. Like this one girl who ran up $100k on credit cards buying designer shoes and clothes. She had a hundred pair of shoes, none costing less than $300. I think all my shoes combined cost $300!
